Trent Reznor and Fellow Composers Shine at ASCAP Screen Music Awards

At the 2025 ASCAP Screen Music Awards held in Hollywood, some of the most innovative voices in screen composition were honored — with Trent Reznor leading the charge.

Reznor, alongside longtime collaborator Atticus Ross, claimed Film Score of the Year for their pulsing, techno-infused soundtrack to Challengers, Luca Guadagnino’s romantic drama starring Zendaya. The score, which has already swept multiple awards including a Golden Globe, was once again celebrated for its ability to deepen narrative through sound.

David Fleming won Documentary Score of the Year for his evocative work on Disney+’s Jim Henson Idea Man, while Nainita Desai earned Video Game Score of the Year for the haunting, emotional score to Tales of Kenzera: Zau. Composer Jeff Toyne was also among the night’s honorees.

The ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards are distinctive in that winners are chosen by their peers — fellow ASCAP composers and songwriters — adding weight to each accolade.

“Your work produces the emotion of the moment,” ASCAP President Paul Williams told the audience, emphasizing the growing need for storytelling through music in turbulent times.
